Auditor Brown Joins Governor Gianforte in Proclaiming April as Financial Literacy Month
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montana State Auditor James Brown joined Governor Greg Gianforte and members of the Montana Financial Education Coalition (MFEC) on Tuesday at a signing ceremony in Helena for a proclamation declaring April as Financial Literacy Month across the state.
“Montanans of every age, background, and profession can always learn more about how to responsibly track, grow, and safeguard their finances. My office is committed to ensuring the people of Montana are protected against fraud, insured at fair rates, and informed as consumers; their financial health depends on it,” Auditor Brown said.
The Auditor’s office has conducted financial literacy trainings in every corner of the state, educating Montanans in an effort to counter fraud and the impacts of financial illiteracy.
A 2025 report published by the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center found that American adults scored an average of 49% on a financial literacy assessment, with Gen Z respondents scoring just 38% on average. Low financial literacy is linked to increased risk of debt constraint, financial fragility, and uncertain emergency savings, according to the report.
Declaring April as Financial Literacy Month helps to promote the state’s interest in increasing the financial knowledge of Montanans, which improves the quality of their lives, bolsters our economy, and strengthens families.
